A novel approach for scalable multi-hop data dissemination in vehicular ad hoc networks

چکیده
Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) have the potential to improve road safety and travel convenience, by providing self-organizing decentralized environments to disseminate traffic data, without requiring fixed infrastructure. The public interest of traffic data makes it appropriate for VANET data dissemination methods to rely on broadcasting. However, scalability issues arise when broadcasting under high density scenarios, where the high percentage of data redundancy and packet collisions may easily lead to the broadcast storm problem. Existing solutions either do not scale well under high density scenarios, or require extra overhead to estimate traffic density, so as to manage data dissemination accordingly. In this paper, we provide a novel approach for data dissemination in multi-hop VAENT that relies on traffic regime estimation to provide scalable broadcast, without extra communication overhead. Simulation results show the efficiency of our broadcasting approach in achieving low broadcasting overhead while maintaining the high data delivery ratio. © 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks
Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...
متن کاملA Novel Position-based Multi-hop Broadcast Protocol for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks
Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) are considered as a promising scheme to actively guarantee vehicle safety, and broadcast is a key technology for warning message dissemination in VANETs. This paper proposes a novel Position-based Multi-hop Broadcast (PMB) protocol for VANETs in view of some shortcomings of existing broadcast protocols for VANETs, such as ignoring the differences of transmissi...

Data are being propagated multi-hop between source and destination vehicles for many real-life applications. Clusterin...
متن کاملMCB - A multi-channel beaconing protocol
We present Multi-Channel Beacon (MCB), a novel approach for efficient wide area data dissemination in vehicular networks using all the DSRC/WAVE channels. Current standardization efforts towards beaconing (i.e., one-hop broadcasting) protocols in vehicular networks focus on the use of a single radio channel only. This is a major bottleneck at high vehicle densities, leading to high delays or pa...
متن کاملVANET Broadcast Protocol Based on Fuzzy Logic and Lightweight Retransmission Mechanism
Vehicular ad hoc networks have been attracting the interest of both academic and industrial communities on account of their potential role in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). However, due to vehicle movement and fading in wireless communications, providing a reliable and efficient multi-hop broadcast service in vehicular ad hoc networks is still an open research topic. In this paper, w...
